running into an issue with scribing, I am making some brackets and want to scribe the fold line from fusion 360. The plan was to scribe the fold lines, then do the cut. The problem is when I do the post on only the scribe lines it omits the rest of the drawing below and above the scribe lines so they will not be in the right place. Drawing was done in Fusion 360 sheet metal output but I use sheetcam for post and not Fusion because I much prefer sheetcam.
Figured a work around to scribe the whole thing, then cut and that works but it seems like there should be a way to avoid that. The cut lines obliterate the scribe lines but it is extra scribing that is not needed.
I am sure I probably missing something simple but can’t figure out why the rest of the drawing lines are omitted in the post. any ideas?
that’s the right plan, provided you have a scriber setup and post processor (pp) that coordinate together. Meaning, if your scriber is a torch insert replacing the nozzle/electrode, then the pp must insert motion and machine pause to allow a tool change to replace the scriber with nozzle/electrode; OR if your machine has separate Z axis retractable scriber, then the pp must include the XYZ offset from the torch to the scriber when posting coordinates.
This needs to be unpacked and understood, so bare with me.
It reads like you are exporting from Fusion a dxf with only scribe lines, and then wanting to export another dxf with only cut lines. If so, you can do it that way but the two dxf files need a common origin object.
You may be better off in terms of workflow/process by exporting all lines (scribe and cut) in one dxf, then in sheetcam use Mode / ‘Edit contours’ to select and move scribe lines to a new and separate layer from cut lines leaving the latter in the original layer.
thanks. i have layers for the outside cut, the holes, inside cut and the scribe on line. trying to do two operations. first is scribe the cut but the post file for just the scribe cuts tosses all the other info and doesn’t start at the same area.
