I just recently purchased a new laptop and have had files and software transferred to it from the old one.. I need to get Sheetcam transferred over to the new laptop. How do I get this to happen? What steps do I need to perform? Where and what do I look for in the old laptop to make this happen?
I really need some help here guys. I have retrieved my license number from the old laptop, how do I install sheetcam to my new laptop from the old laptop and transfer the license?
@donnie , do you have the license file (it has a file type of .camlic) or do you just have the license number ? You’ll need the license file if you can still retrieve it. If you can’t retrieve it, send me a direct message with the license number and I can contact sheetcam to get you a replacement copy.

When you have the license file, and IF it was purchased prior to Sept 15, 2025, then you have a sheetcam V7 compatible license. Purchased after that date, you have a V8 compatible license. The license file is NOT cross compatible. Download the appropriate sheetcam version for installation.
-
download sheetcam V7.x here: https://www.sheetcam.com/Downloads/akp3fldwqh/SheetCam%20TNG%20Development%20setup%20V7.1.40.exe
-
OR download sheetcam V8.x here: Download SheetCam – SheetCam LLC
-
run the downloaded .exe to install sheetcam… during install I recommend…
-
select ‘system default language’
-
create desktop icon
-
select your preferred measurement units, these are for the CAM editor. You select gcode units later.
-
messages that tell you to restart the program can be ignored until the setup wizard is finished, then you just need to restart sheetcam just one time.
-
when asked to ‘choose a post processor for your machine’, find your pp in the available drop down list. OK. The pp choice can always be changed later.
-
when the wizard finishes, before we restart sheetcam, let’s install the license file .camlic that you have. You should be in the main Sheetcam window at this point, resize it to your liking. Select menu Help / ‘Install license file’, then navigate to the .camlic file and select it. OK.
-
Now you can restart Sheetcam

-
you don’t have any Tools defined yet. You can retrieve your toolset from any .job file that you have from the old computer. Select File / ‘Open job’, select the .job file. OK.
-
disregard the sheetcam toolpath graphic for now, let’s save the tools from this job as the Default Toolset. Select File / ‘Save default toolset’. yes, overwrite. OK.
-
now right click on the graphic CAM toolpath showing in main window, select ‘Show grid’, select ‘Grid options’ / ‘Show rulers’. OK.
-
Select menu View / ‘Layer tool’, so you can see layers of DXF imports.
done.
