just trying to get started…going thru the tutorial section…got to the “plasma” sign and “X” ed out, then grey and red boxes vanished…dont know why or how to get them back…help

I believe it is by design that the tutorial you used (menu Help-Tutorials-Operation Tutorials-Jet Cutting) reset the material and machine dimensions since setting them is included in the tutorial steps, on page 2. Follow those steps and it should correct the issue.
Alternatively, menu Options-Job Options on the Material tab will set dimensions of the maroon material background. menu Options-Machine on the ‘Work envelope’ and ‘Table display’ will set those dimensions, but I prefer to just leave them 0,0.
tip: once you get material and other Job Options established, including some tool definitions, you can create a job template of those settings that can be quickly reloaded to return to those states. See menu File-‘Save job as Template’.

tried doing all this already but to no avail. the grey and red boxes are completely gone, all i seem to be able to get is a smoky ,shadow of where the grey box used to be. maybe i’ll delete the programme and re load and start again
The red (maroon) box is the material image, the greys are work envelope and table display, one each. You just need to know where those dimensions are entered and stored.

thank you very much, i was able to retrieve the boxes using the video you supplied. but now i have another problem… it doesn’t happen with every one, but when i import a dxf it shows up enormous and well off the material box. i have to zoom way down to see the image and this makes the material box all but vanish. what am i doing wrong?
i figured it out…had to scale properly…told you i was just starting out
