Hi, I cannot find an answer to this one so far. I want to add a few layers permanently to the drop down menu so I am not having to add them for every layer on every part every time. So instead of the menu saying just layer zero it could be for example pierce, holes, outer etc… would save so much time. Thanks

… I usually take the default ‘A new layer’, since my use case for this function is to get something out of my way for the Operation at hand, and I know I’m not going to iterate CAD/CAM. So for similar reasons as has already been stated, the best place to deal with contours [being] in the correct layer is [to handle it] in the CAD, that way iterations of CAD to CAM don’t need such [redundant] fixup, and if the CAD change is minor, neither do other edits (such as start points) [need fixup] that were previously done in SC…

Currently layers that contain no data are automatically deleted. If this was not done you would end up with a slowly growing list of layer names as you load different drawings with different layer names. I generally recommend using layers or colors in your drawing. That way you don’t have to manually move contours to different layers in SheetCam.
On a related note, explore the use of sheetcam templates, menu File-‘Save job as template’. This provides for saving the material size and other job specific settings, a toolset same as or other than default tools, and job operation definitions by part, multiple parts are allowed as well. But for reasons Les gave in the quote above, Layers are not saved. But use that to your advantage- use layer names referenced in template Operations that correspond to the layer names you can use in your CAD, that way you don’t have to use sheetcam Contour mode to move objects to named layers.
Expanding on the ‘template’ type, consider making a .part file, see menu File’Save part as’. The part file, menu File’Open part’, will bring in Layers and Operations, but not tools. You can use this with or without a template.
