That is a thread mill. Create a new rotary tool and select ‘Thread mill’ for the type. Se the number of teeth to 1and the flute length to the maximum depth the tool can reach. Pitch is the thread pitch the tool will generate. Thread depth you will have to work out or find by trial and error. This is the depth of cut to form a full thread.
On your drawing draw a circle to indicate the hole and use a threading operation. Set the function to ‘Thread mill’. Most of teh settinhs are self explanatory but min hole size and max hole size may be confusing. Basically it will only cut circles that are between those two sizes.
Ok, Thank you. I have attached a Picture from a Thread Mill adn write down your Tips, is this OK ?
NL is the flute length.
If you drill 2.5mm and the thread is 3mm the thread depth would be (3 - 2.5) / 2 = 0.25mm.
By the way I hope you aren’t hoping to cut 3mm threads. You can get cutters that small but they are expansive and very fragile.
Hi,
about the deep. When I would like to make i.e. a 3mm Thread, then I must drill 2.5mm. The middle of this is right now the center.
The cut deep was 0,25mm both sides = 0,5mm. I start at the center then the Thread mill will go to 1,25 and cut 0,25 deep, up to the top, right?
I have a small one 9-) And this was the question I make here, I would not kill it…
Yes, that is right. I would recommend trying it on some wax or similar soft test piece before cutting metal.
A perfect Material was STYRODUR !!!
