Spiral drilling with end mill

Hi all, I want to be able to drill holes using an end mill/router cutter by spiralling the cutter down at a constant rate per rev, for example a 20mm hole using a 5mm cutter with 1mm depth per rev. I’ve tried using interal contour with ramp but can’t seem to get exactly what I’m after. Any ideas please?

Ok, I think I’ve got it. In the example above the 20mm hole has a tool path length of about 60mm (20 x Pi) so to acheive 1mm in 1 rev the ramp angle would need to be about 1 degree. So using internal contour operation and setting the depth of the pass to the full depth required and ramp angle of 1 degree should produce the desired result. I’ll try it later.

It may help to set the depth per pass to 1mm. That way if your ramp is still a bit steep it will still not cut more than 1mm per pass. The cut path will be a mix of spiral and flat but in most cases it won’t make any practical difference.
