I find I use the simulation button frequently with complex layouts. I am assuming that it uses the post output to generate the path - if that is the case
is there an option to display the g-code whilst the simulation is running?

I think I found the answer - from a post from 2010 - the simulator uses its own code because of the number of variations of machine specific posts.
ah well - I’ll go back to simulating in the control.

Yes, that’s correct. Writing a reverse post processor for every machine would be an awful lot of work.
