Scanything tolerance

Hi all. I purchased Scanything back in nov to use with Mach3 for a client that had an obsolate tracing system that failed on his plasma rig. After much trial and error and many cameras I still can not get it to work to his liking. After all is said and done I have traced the problem I am having to the mass of his machine, it is very heavy and will not operate at the tight tollerances that scanything requires. I must scan at a very very slow rate so that the machine will not overshoot the corners which stops the scan and require you to start over. While this scan and “walk away” aproch works the clinent is not happy as the old tracer worked very fast and was much easier to get alignment. There is no way to burn in real time.

So my question, is there a way to make scannything less touchy, I don’t need but 2-3 mm accruacy as he does large peices. Also is there a way to restart the scan in the middle if it fails?

Also Scanything uses a huge amount of cpu which bog’s down mach3, I need to reduce the process priority to scanything every time I open it in order to make things work at all. any suggestions? Using Windows XP mobile pentium 1.6g speed 2g mem

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using a parallel port?
I think your main issue is that your CPU is under powered for the job. Real time image processing is CPU hungry and there is no real way to get around it. There are a lot of calculations to do on every frame. In Scanything take a look at the frame rates. If you get much below 30FPS you are going to have problems.

Thank you for the advise, still I will have the problem that if the machine overshoots even 1mm it stops and has to be started over, I need a way to make it less sensitive to this.

Yes, parallel port.

Thankx again,
J

Currently there isn’t any way to set the tolerance. If your computer is fast enough scanning won’t be nearly as touchy.
