Scananything .dxf's only open in Sheetcam?

I cannot open/edit .dxf’s generated from Scananything in anything other than Sheetcam.
Is this expected/limited scope of the export, or am I missing something?

There is an issue where some applications (e.g Inkscape) won’t open dxf files from the Windows version of Scanything. As a workaround you can load the drawing into LibreCad https://librecad.org/ then save it.

d/l’d LibreCAD with same result

Dxf’s generated from Scananything LINUX aren’t openeing in LINUX, WIN10, or MAC 10.12 in any app. (other than Sheetcam in LINUX
so far)

UPDATE:
I was just able to open/import a file in an older version of Blender(!) (WIN)
So then, it can be read, but why wouldn’t dedicated CAD programs be able to import them… weird

Could you possibly test there? From LINUX version; do a combined shape of at least one inner and one outer scan.
See if the resulting .dxf file opens in something CAD.

thanks in advance

I thought you were using the Windows Scanything. The Linux Scanything has some tweaks that should load in most cad packages. Could you send me a sample dxf file. What version of Scanything are you using?

version of Scanything: 2.0.17

I’ll see if attch works off this machine
Sorry for the LINUX but C&CNC / CommandCNC is my whole plasma system(comes with the LINUX computer)(Xbuntu)
ADD-ONs to the system applications are a PITA! if they work at all…
SCAN_001.dxf (22.4 KB)
SCAN_002.dxf (16.3 KB)

I’m changing the camera setup i’m using so let me see if it persists after the changes. I was able to open one of the files and it the edge resolution is particularly shaky/laying down a LOT of scrappy vertices where lines should be stable.

I think I see the problem. I’l try to get an update out in the next couple of weeks.

oh, wow.
That’d be brilliant Les!

Thought it was me/operator error
(probably didn’t need the new camera!)

Les,

any chance of an update to the linuxcnc version?

I am presently running 2.8.2 installed via the Debian Buster linuxcnc 2.8.2 iso

I also have a 2.9 run in place install on the machine for QTPlasmaC as well.

I am afraid I’m tied up with some other work at the moment. I will be a couple of weeks before I can get to it.

Currently in the same situation. Can’t open the DXF for editing in anything other than SheetCam.

We have just purchased a new plasma CNC with the camera+Scanything (2.0.17 on linux) addon. It’s of no use to us if we can’t open the DXF files in other programs.

Any update on this?

Can you use the dxf post processor in SheetCam and use it to make a new dxf? Might be able to fix the file that way.

That did the trick!

The computer that came with the machine did not have the DXF post installed, but I was able to snag it from a fresh install on another computer.

Thanks!

Cool. Glad it worked.
