Open paths were not offset????

Finished caming and simulation, however, the cut profile box is in red ans reads " open paths were not offset". Did a search but didn’t find anything specific to that. Thanks in advance for the help.

The warning ‘open paths were not offset’ is simply a warning that you have some open contours and they weren’t offset. It may be that is what you wanted. The warning only appears to remind you in case that is not what you wanted to happen. If you want open paths offset then turn on ‘offset open paths’ in the cut path tab.

Hi Les,

I’ve got a DXF where there was a (small) break in the outline however choosing the offset open paths doesn’t seem to work right. If I choose an inside offset it works fine however if i choose an outside offset it still does an inside offset. There are other outlines in the DXF (that don’t have breaks) and they show the offsets right. I’ve fixed the source of the problem in the DXF but just found it a little odd that your suggestion didn’t work with the ‘broken’ version.

Happy to send you the broken DXF if it helps.

Cheers,

Andrew

The problem is that an open contour has no inside and no outside. Think of a straight line. Which side is inside?

Because of this SheetCam treats open contours differently. It always offsets the same way. Imagine you are at the start point, looking down the line. The offset will always be to your right. If you want to reverse the offset, move the start point to the other end of the line. To move the start point, switch to start point mode (the button with an S and a small cross). Make sure your operation is selected in the operations list then click on the end where you want to place the start point.

Ok moving the start point fixed it!

Thanks
