New sheetcam V8

I’m not aware of any change of plan from sheetcam to offer upgrade pricing, at some point soon according to my last correspondence with them. You can write them, sales@sheetcam.com, to inquire.

Reminder that you can trial/demo v8 indefinitely to determine and ensure that you like the new features and find value there before purchasing. I highly recommend such a trial.

downloaded it but cant get the nesting to work , do u have tips or info or link to a tutorial

all the v8 tutorials are on the website from where you downloaded sheetcam.

are u talking about the 3 2-minute videos

yes, but after watching them again, I have to agree that they are pretty poor. They fail to describe how to prep for the autonesting feature. Autonesting (menu Nesting) operates on Operations of Parts, and specifically Operations defined with a ‘Contour method’ of ‘Outside offset’.
The nesting ‘container’ size and shape is the job’s material definition, which itself can be an imported dxf drawing, or simply a rectangle defined with XY dimensions as is typical.
See these 3 jobs as examples.
practice autonest v8.job.nested as 4 parts.job (20.6 KB)
practice autonest v8.job (10.4 KB)
practice autonest v8.job.nested as one part.job (12.4 KB)

i know how it SHOULD work but cant seem to get it to do that [ been using free Deepnest and now the new improved Deepnest that works great ] . I just feel like there should be way more tutorials first , showing what the new software is capable off and developing interest in the new product before jumping the gun and getting everyone alienated with the price and the kick in the guts that the software that i just bought will be obsolete soon. So here’s my question : why aren’t there more videos about this new product and new features ? it only takes 15 min to make a video tutorial

Does the new version fix the following things that seem to be missing from v7?

  • When setting a cutting path/rule to “minimise thermal distortion”, it would be good to be able to have small parts cut BEFORE large parts, especially on thin material where a small cut is near a large cut that might cause bending/deflection, etc. (without spending an hour renumber cuts, when you can barely read the number and it disappears on zoom.)
  • Removal of a cut - there seems to be no way other than editing g-code (which doesn’t get saved with the .job file) to remove a cut. I can change sequence but would like to be able to disable certain cuts. I’m guessing that with v8 you could do that with the CAD editor - I’m just not sure I’d spend $279 just for that, unless it is MUCH easier to use than Inkscape, bend-tech SM, etc.

not fixed.
to solve this, draw your small parts to cut first in a separate layer, or use sheetcam tool menu Mode / ‘Edit contours’ to move the selected contours to a separate/new layer.

There is and has been a way in sheetcam to accomplish this, see method described above.
As for v8 CAD being easier or better than other CADs, you’d have to try it and draw your own conclusions. The trial is free, unlimited time.

As for other CADs, try OnShape.com, its free and no computer install, it’s cloud based, runs in your browser and has sheetmetal modeling w unfolding, K factor, etc. Export unfolded dxf to sheetcam.

The links for the Windows versions seem to be broken. Can you update the links?

the links worked for me just now.

write to @zack-sheetcam if they are not working for you

Chrome blocks them because they are http:// and not https://

I was able to copy the link address, add the s, and download them.
