Importing text

Hi all. I’m new to the forum (and cnc in general) and I’m wondering how to import text without an ‘outline’. I’ve tried coral draw and Illustrator and when I explode the text it has an outline around the letter. When I try to engrave this in wood the router bit is too ‘big’ and cuts over itself making the text look awful.

Is there a way to just have a single ‘line’ for each letter or is there another way??

Hope I’ve explained this properly :unamused:

This is a fairly common problem. What you need is a single stroke font. Unfortunately Corel, Illustrator etc use Windows TTF fonts. There aren’t any single stroke TTF fonts available.

To get around this problem SheetCam has built in text support that uses the old Autocad SHX fonts, which do support single stroke. Click on the big ‘T’ button to switch to text mode. This allows you to place text anywhere in your current drawing. The ROMANSX6 font for example should work quite well.

I have used “Simplex” text in my cad program which is basically a
“stick” type and when exploded has worked very well.

Thanks for the advice… I’ll try both ideas )
