Help with Pocketing Operations

Post by jtcrowder49 »

Hello All,

I'm here looking for some advice or maybe a feature to use in sheet cam. Long story short, I am looking to pocket the text you see in the photo below. I have been doing this with a 3.175mm end mill but of course it leaves out some detail.

I have smaller 0.79mm and 0.25mm bits at my disposal, but even adding a contour pass to these leaves some material in the pocket. My question, is there a solution to pocketing that does not require the bit to run the entire area of the pocket? Basically, I need to get the smaller tighter areas but I do not need to go all the way to the center as the roughing pass has taken care of this. I have the roughing pass and the finishing pass, but I am leaving some material in between.

How can I allow the smaller bits to pass where the larger ones could not?

I tried playing around with the finishing passes but that seemed to be working against me.

Is there a software feature? Or I need to invest in more suitable tooling?

Thank you, If this is not the correct subforum please direct me.

I'll add that this logo is 8 inches across and 2 inches high.
