DXF import problem for POINT entities

Post by jemmyell »

Hi Les,

I am attaching two test files from my DXFTool. They both have 4 POINT entities in the upper left hand corner. The file that has these POINTs as the first four entities does NOT import them into SheetCAM, the file that moves these POINTs after other entity types does. Please advise.

DXF import problem for POINT entities

Post by Les Newell »

Hi James,

The file with points at the start is incorrect. There is no layer
information for the points so SheetCam does not know where to put them.
This file actually has a good chance of crashing SheetCam so I will
change the next release to default to the first layer if layer
information is missing.

My export is fixed now

Hi Les,

Thank you! I have fixed my export to have a layer name for the POINT entity now. Yes, it is good to be defensive aginst malformed files!

Thanks again,

It took me awhile to get the hang of making layers for everything, or at least having everything on a named layer. Once I got my head around it though, it is easy to plan cuts using layers before I ever get the file into Sheetcam. Then in Sheetcam, it's pretty much no brainer time. ;)
