Layers and Operations

Post by Gurnsy »

Hi all

Newb questions:

Preparing a drawing for plasma cutting. Exporting to DXF from Inkscape.

The SheetCam manual states:

"If you want to perform more than one operation on your part then you will need to separate
your drawing into layers."

Is an operation considered to be a cut line based on a single closed object?

i.e. My adapter drawing contains two closed elements. An outer cut line and an inner cut line.

Would the drawing need to separate the outer and inner cuts to individual layers?

Do the order of the layers decide the order the cuts will be make in?
i.e. The outer cut would need to be the last or highest number in the layer order.

Leave everything on one layer and do an 'outside offset' jet cutting operation. In your cut operation go to the 'cut path' tab and make sure optimisation is set to 'auto' and 'Cutting rules' are set to 'keep parts together'. SheetCam will automatically reverse the cut side for the inside of your part. It will also cut inside first.
