V-Carve Curves

Post by battiwallah »

Les,

I'm having great success with Sheetcam and with V-Carve but I have a query. When using this with curves I get odd tool movements as shown on the attached screenshot - the little triangular excursions. These don't affect the appearance of the final job because the tool is not actually removing any noticeable amount of material, but uses up machining time. (It appears that changes in direction in some cases appear to the program as a corner and V-Carve sees this the same way as a sharp corner and tries to finish it off as sharp.) Is there a way to smooth this out, perhaps by some change in the DXF drawing?

Many thanks.

Those moves are due to slight discontinuities in the outline. Try reducing the step size. That may help. Also try playing with the angle threshold.
