Start and end of cut path doesn't meet up.

I am trying to cut some letters and I can't seem to get the start and end points to meet. The gantry appears to begin its movement before the torch has fully descended and ignited.
I have tried adjusting lots of settings but have had no luck. I have attached a photo of what the cuts look like - you see both the inner and outer cuts are incomplete.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm a complete beginner so may ask some silly questions.
