Retract from POCKET between passes

Post by Rustifer »

Hi,
Pocketing a .440" hole with a .25" endmill, 6 passes at .060"
Z retracrs to Z+1 between each pass.
Are all pockets treated this way ?
Is the retract distance adjustable ?
Or, can the retract be turned OFF ?
Can you direct me to it please ?

Thanks very much :)

.........also, even though I select CLIMB, it only UP cuts.
Is there another way to change the cut direction ?
Thanks

You can set the Z clearance height in Options->job options. SheetCam tries not to retract too often but sometimes it has to.

When cutting the inside of the pocket the cut direction can vary. climb/normal only really affects the outside pass.

May you could fix this if you connect the closed pathes inside a pocket by a tool path instead of a rapid path?
So there would be no need to goto the Z clearance height:

It normally does. I'm not sure why it didn't in that case.

I just tried this with a version 6.0.30 and this is done better in this version. In 6.0.30 it looks like in the lower picture.
But it is also moving to safe Z when entering a new Z pass.
