Hello new to group and new to Sheetcam

Post by adrian@ttechnicals.plu... »

Hello group, hope I do not pester you all too much as I learn the working of Sheetcam especially that of the post process to suit my machine, which I use a very old control software.

Bit of history, I converted a manual milling machine many years ago, stepper control from the states in kit form home made power supply parallel port driven from a PC in Dos running CNCPro which I bought the licence for before it went out of action. But It is still in use all Gcode was hand written, now I manly use it for drilling applications as a larger mill I have is manual only.

I am now building a plasma cutter using a Chinese style cutter, have a new set of steppers the frame built up and even made a Z axis etc.

Now my issues that I hope people can help with?

I run Linux at home, tend to hate Windows with a passion, no problems I can run the Linux version of Sheetcam.

Would still like to run the Old control software to drive the steppers using CNCPro, so is there a post process that is already there for CNCPro under another name?

I assume there is still a licence needed for Linux, not a problem if I can get it to work.

I have been trying to understand the Post process and how it works and will look around on here to see if there is a help file or document on editing or making ones own.

I know I could go to Mach3 but would need another PC in the workshop and Windows!

Cheers

Adrian

Adrian

I am another one that uses an obscure control program.
I use Turbocnc which has a very simular syntax to cncpro and over the
years, I have modified the Turbocnc post to suit my needs.

I think you might find it fairly easy to do that and be happy with it. You
might be able to use it as is to do what you want. The Post files are just
text files and easy to manipulate.

There are two basic versions in the standard download, Modular and
Nonmodular. The nonmodular might produce a slightly larger file, but
should work.
Let me know if I can help.

Hello Art

I am replying to this via email as I have not got the ack from the forum yet
to say I am on board

I am just looking at the Minimum G-code post processor I need to change a few
things. The new controller I am using is another Chinese 3 axis 3.5 amp
device and i have to turn it on and off. Is there any documentation on the
Post processors as a search has not come up with anything I can understand
yet.

Should I reply via group email or viaf forum when I get an ack?

Adrian,
As I received this through the sheetcam forum, obviously you are on board!+

If you go to Options > Machine > Post Processor > Post Documentation
(located on the bottom of the tab window)

I think you will find most if not all of what you want to modify a post
processor.
My advice is to save each iteration often as a different name so if a
mistake occurs, you can go back one version.

regards

It may be because I am running in Linux or I have missed a setting somewhere but when I press the button for Post documentation, nothing happens.

My main concern looking at some G-code it has produced is that Pen down works OK, but on Pen up and then going on to rapid move I would have expected Z top move to the safe height before moving X and Y so trying to find what I need to do.

I will see if there is a setting to display the post documentation.

Thanks for help.

OK just had some success I think in getting Z to rapid height first.

part of the post processor now reads:-

Code: Select all

function OnRapid()
---text(currentx," ",currenty," ",endx," ",endy)
 if (math.hypot(endX - currentX, endY - currentY) < 0.001) then return end
 if(endX > 1e30) then return end
 CheckFeed()
 post.Text (" G00")
 post.ModalNumber (" Z", (endZ + toolOffset) * scale, "0.0000")
 post.Text (" \n")
 post.NonModalNumber (" X", endX * scale, "0.0000")
 post.NonModalNumber (" Y", endY * scale, "0.0000")
 post.ModalNumber (" Z", (endZ + toolOffset) * scale, "0.0000")
 post.Eol()
end
I have basically added Z and newline before X and Y move, will see if it works in the morning.

Sleep time here.

Cheers

Adrian
