Thread Milling

When I thread mill, cutter compensation is desirable so you can dial in to the proper thread diameter. I posted on this topic before, but I just noticed something in the way SC generates a move before the first arc lead-in to the cut. When you thread mill with a tool that is significantly smaller th...

Re: basic step for tube development with SW

I have not worked with square tubing or Solid Works, but the rotary plug-in has 3 settings: round pipe, square pipe, and flat sheet. I use the round pipe feature from time to time milling extra material around a boss or lug along the circumference of the part. First, the features to be milled are dr...

Code Snippet

The ability to add code snippets to drilling, thread milling, and pocketing operations. I work with a 4th (A) axis on a regular basis and normally add the rotation angle in the operation "add code snippet" drop down box that way if I need to continue with that operation the next day, the r...

I figured it would be hard to implement, especially since adding that feature to the operation menus would require more than a simple post processor edit. Thanks for the reply.

Cutter Compensation for milling machine

Here is a topic/question that I have not run across on this forum. I like use cutter compensation (G41,G42,G40,and D number for tool) when thread milling. It allows you to "dial in" the thread mill so it cuts on size. Is there a way I can edit the post processor so it will understand if I ...

Settings

Select File in the upper left and you can save your toolset and save your job as a template, then you can reload them on your new pc and resave your toolset as the default one.

V-cutter angles

I was wondering how SC handles V cutter angles. In the tool list you input the tip diameter or flat width, and cutter angle. 1. Is this the total angle of cutter or per side? 2. If per side, is it referenced off of 0 degrees or 90 degrees(default cad angle, CCW from 0 degrees)? I am only asking beca...

You are going to have to manually edit the program. It can be done when you post it in the editor. After that run the code through a separate code simulator like Camotics or NC-corrector to verify. Both are free and do a good job.

Post processor/job

The insert g-code option you recommended earlier works fine for my use. Here is another one, maybe one so obvious I missed it. I occasionally switch between 2 post processors (fanuc and rotary mach3). Whenever I return to a job, it always loads the last post processor I used, regardless of what it w...

Application options

I am using Rotary Mach3 for a job that involves removing all material around the circumference of the part except a 1 inch wide lug located at A0 along the length of the part. I need to use Rotary Mach3 to pocket mill all the excess material except for the lug of course, but I also need the lug to h...

I don't know your level of expertise with SC, but make sure your operation boxes are checked. People generally upload the job file which helps in troubleshooting by others.

Work around

I found if you mirror the Y axis, it reverses the A rotation, so it essentially acts like A axis mirror. The only draw back is the rotary plasma simulator will show it running mirrored, and not like it was drawn.

Mirror A Axis

Mirror A Axis just like X and Y can be in SC. Some mill machines do not have that feature in their control and/or does not recognize the associated G code for mirroring.
