Help with Pocketing Operations

Hello All, I'm here looking for some advice or maybe a feature to use in sheet cam. Long story short, I am looking to pocket the text you see in the photo below. I have been doing this with a 3.175mm end mill but of course it leaves out some detail. I have smaller 0.79mm and 0.25mm bits at my dispos...

Re: Back again with unexpected issues.

Sorry for the late reply. It takes me some time to work through things. I checked every aspect of my machine and could not find anything loose or worn. I went over all of it anyway. I am not sure what the issue was but I had been needing a reason to change the software I use to control the machine a...

Back again with unexpected issues.

Hi All, I am sorry to say I am back again, but you guys are so helpful, I can't help but ask. I was cutting a profile today from some MDF as a test piece. I'll spare the long detail but in todays work I noticed repeat unexpected issues and I wanted to reach out. First: as you can see from the attach...

Re: Issues with circles and outside contour operations

Les, I tried the same GCode with your modifications. Luckily for me I had much faith in you because I left the machine as it was and I was able to return with the modified post and still use up the rest of my material. Each circle cut perfectly and the "holes" that were drilled were perfec...

Re: Issues with circles and outside contour operations

Hi Les,

It’s sold by the Sienci Company. I believe it is GRBL related language. The controller is here.

Re: Issues with circles and outside contour operations

Actual paths here. The first photo is today's attempt is much more simple. All holes should be routed, outside contour. No drilling. You can see in the second photo (The first time this happened to me.) some of the holes are correctly routed, others are only "drilled" (should have been rou...

Issues with circles and outside contour operations

Hi all, I have recently been having issues with holes and outside contours. To speak simply, it is not uncommon for me to cut washers on my rotary table, sometimes with and sometimes without holes. The last two jobs I have tried I have had mixed results. In short, I am trying to cut these round shap...

Re: Going nuts over "Open paths" that are not actually open...

I'm not sure Keith. I will have to take more notice when I am drawing. I have so many versions of this file now I cannot remember which one is the original.

Thank you for the help.

Re: Going nuts over "Open paths" that are not actually open...

Wow Keith. I had no idea. Thank you for the insight.

How is it possible I have created this?

I only used the splines over a background image.

Does this come from my original drawing, or did I create this while trying to import into SC?

How not to have this error in the future is my question.

Re: Going nuts over "Open paths" that are not actually open...

Thanks for the response guys. Sorry for the long wait. The holiday and the summer shutdown at work has me all tied up. Unfortunately, I had to redraw the entire thing line by line to get it to work. I do not know what the difference was but I will attach the DXF here. Maybe someone can tell me what ...

Start about 4:00. Save as R12 dxf and select convert splines to polylines in the options.
I don't have SW so I can't test this.
Thank you. I will try this. I tried drawing as an arc but no dice. still has the same issue in the same spot.

Re: Going nuts over "Open paths" that are not actually open...

Yes, SheetCam doesn't work well with splines. If you can convert the splines to polylines you will have better luck. As a side note, if you turn on path ends in SheetCam you can check your path for little white dots. It will help you find inadvertent open paths. Thank you for the suggestions. I hav...

Re: Going nuts over "Open paths" that are not actually open...

Upon doing more research this may not be an issue with SC. Looks like it is related to the way i have drawn the part using splines. Basically, I have drawn an arch using splines and connected the bottom with a short line on each end. For whatever reason the splines are causing my issue. Strange.
